OBJ to STL converter
OBJ files come from Blender, scanners and AI model generators. Convert one to STL for your slicer.
Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
OBJ files and 3D printing
OBJ is a common format for 3D art, scans and AI-generated models. It's built for rendering, so it carries textures and materials that printers ignore. Most slicers open OBJ, but STL is still the format everyone, everywhere accepts.
How to convert OBJ to STL
- Drop your .obj file into the box above.
- Check the preview and the size. If it's tiny, it was probably saved in metres.
- Press Download STL.
Tips for AI-generated OBJ models
- They often have far more triangles than a printer can show. Reduce the triangles to make them much smaller.
- Run them through the model checker to look for holes before you print.
- If you share an AI-generated model, label it as AI-generated. Sites like MakerWorld detect them anyway.
Questions
Is this OBJ to STL converter free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no limits. It runs in your browser, and your file is never uploaded.
What about the textures and the .mtl file?
STL can't hold colour or textures, so only the shape is converted. You don't need the .mtl file or the texture images.
My model came out tiny (or huge). Why?
OBJ files don't store units. Many 3D programs and AI model generators save them in metres, so a 10 cm figure comes out 0.1 mm tall. Scale it in your slicer, or check it with our STL viewer first.
Why is it lying on its back?
Some programs save OBJ files with Y as the up direction, while printers use Z. Rotate it 90° in your slicer and it'll stand up.
